About

An installation at Arlanda Airport to increase awareness about Sandvik and their extensive and industry leading innovation capability. It was to quickly convey Sandvik’s complex and multifaceted operations to travellers at the busy environment of Terminal 5.

Sandviks offers in aviation, mining and the medical field were on display. Users controlled the stories interactively from the screens. The robots moved in sync with the visual materials on screen.

Technology

There were a number of challenges involved in creating the interactive screens that communicated with the robots. Airports have very strict guidelines in terms of what hardware is allowed. In this case we wanted to use large screens with touch capability. To solve this in compliance with guidelines we had to use Neonodes IR touch sensors mounted with the screens. We also created a tool to enable monitoring of robot status and communications and the general health of the installation remotely.
